Flemish, circa 1790s, white linen damask tablecloth with center eagle and shield over a banner with "E Pluribus Unum", attached paper label states, "Table cloth woven just after the Rev. War with Coat of Arms of the U.S. and words E Plurius Unum. Loaned by Dr. L.P. Shippen", 128 x 84 in. extensive stains throughout, two 1/4 in. holes at corner and edge, wear. Notes: A similar tablecloth is in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and said to have been presented to Colonel James Swan in Paris circa 1794.. Provenance: by descent in the Shippen and Lloyd Families
