French, probably 16th century, Gothic/Renaissance tall stools, each walnut throughout, molded square tops with central holes, ring and baluster splayed legs with scalloped stretchers and turned feet, top 28 x 12 x 12 in. - Note: A nearly identical pair of Gothic stools is illustrated in Jacqueline Boccador, Le Mobilier Francais Du Moyen Age A La Renaissance, catalog no. 259, and are dated to the second half of the 16th century. - Provenance: Estate of Paul W. appear to have very good integrity, scattered pest damage especially at tops, original feet with some wear and edge losses, other typical cracks, stains, and surface wear
