French, probably 16th century, Gothic/Renaissance tall stools, each walnut throughout, molded square tops with central holes, ring and baluster splayed legs with scalloped stretchers and turned feet, top 28 x 12 x 12 in. - Note: A nearly identical pair of Gothic stools is illustrated in Jacqueline Boccador, Le Mobilier Francais Du Moyen Age A La Renaissance, catalog no. 259, and are dated to the second half of the 16th century. - Provenance: Estate of Paul W.
