A Scottish native, George M. Miller (d. 1819) moved to Philadelphia in the late 1790s and worked there and in Baltimore during his 20 years in America. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Academy and a fellow of the Columbian Society of Arts and came to fame in 1798 with his bas-relief of George Washington.
