(British, 1902-1995), flares dramatically from a small base, with incised vertical black lines and pink and copper glazes, "LR" seal impressed in bottom, 4-1/4 x 7-7/8 in., [good condition with some anomalies as made]; with poster, 28 in.. Notes: Dame Lucy Gomperz Rie was born in Austria and studied pottery under Michael Powolny at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule. In 1938, she fled Nazi Austria and emigrated to England, settling in London. Her pottery is displayed in collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the York Art Gallery in the UK, and Paisley Museum in Scotland. Her studio was moved and reconstructed in the new ceramics gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum opened in 2009..
