Note: This is a fine and rare example of the the popular production of colored prints intended for the illiterate public of the countryside, born and spread since the 16th century, particularly in the cities of northeastern France, such as Epinal, Metz, Nancy. The "Fabricant d'Images" disseminated in the villages, through street vendors, xylographic tables concerning religion and political and military events. In Epinal, starting from the end of the 1700s, the Pellerin printing house was established: founded by Nicolas Pellerin (1703 - 1773), it then passed under the direction of his son Jean-Charles (1756-1836), who succeeded him in 1779.
