Chinese, probably Ming dynasty, knobby root, possibly chenxiangmu, in lustrous old patinated surface depicting a standing figure with flowing robes, holding a scroll in right hand, face with downcast eyes and gentle smile, up swept hair, back with inscribed character marks, likely indicating Ming and also the name of the carver, 19-3/4 in.Provenance: Private New England Collection
Good overall in rich old surface, loss to right foot, left foot with early nail attachment (appear to be as made), minor old loss to right ear and top of hair, base with very minor glue repairs, expected minor shrinkage cracks, other minor surface flawsÿ
