attributed to Piedmont, Georgia, circa 1810, figured mahogany with yellow pine secondary, center section with two drop leaves, end sections with notched corners, open 29-1/4 x 95 x 47-1/2 in. - Note: This table is documented by MESDA - see file S-6444. The letter from Jim Williams referring to the table indicates it was "made either in Savannah or Augusta, Georgia. It was a part of the furnishings belonging to the governor of Georgia in the mansion in Milledgeville that were sold about 1866 before the capital was moved to Atlanta. The son of the purchaser sold it to a lady in Milledgeville, and I bought it from her. To my knowledge, it is the only three part Georgia-made table to survive from the period 1790-1810." - Provenance: Jim Williams, Savannah, Georgia, purchased February 1972 (accompanied by letter referencing the table); Private Georgia Collection
Condition
the table survives in excellent condition overall, very minor cracks to top center at hinges, one leg with repaired crack and checking, other very minor wear and flaws consistent with age and use
