Silk Depicting a Swan, Falcon and Lotus Flowers in the Song style, probably Ming period, color and ink on paper mounted on silk scroll and mounted on a linen ground and framed, seal mark and possible signature upper left, image 24-1/4 x 45 in. extensive wear and losses to pigment with consolidated fractures to silk, creases, water drips on silk and other distress (see detailed photos), lacking scroll mounts. Notes: Literature: Illustrated in an article by Adrienne Williams in the December 1933 issue of Asia magazine (photocopies of two pages accompany the lot). Accompanying letter from Ton-Ying & Company to English Cody indicates this scroll painting is "from the pens of Emperor Hwei Tsung who reigned during 1101-1126 A.D." The letter also references the Asia magazine article indicating the Kiang Family Collection provenance and that it is the work of Wang Hsien. Dr. Kang-Hu was formerly head of the Department of Chinese studies at McGill University, Montreal, Canada..
