Woodbury, Connecticut, 1770-1780, rare fully developed example with closed bonnet centering a carved finial plinth with flame finial above shell carved central drawer, upper drawers flanked by fluted pilasters, lower case with two long drawers, lower drawer with deeply carved shell, on scalloped skirt with C-scroll carved cabriole legs and well formed ball and claw feet, 85 x 43 x 22 in., Provenance: Collection of John Gunther, 1960; Bruce LaConte Estate, Carl Nordblom Auction, 1989; The Ann and Joel Finn Collection; Note: Illustrated in the Jeffery Tillou Antiques catalog,ÿThe Ann and Joel Finn Collection, pg. 15 (lot accompanied by copy of catalog).
Condition
very good overall, some minor repairs at drawer lips, some possible later color, break and repair at one rear leg, minor break at one scroll on finial support on finial plinth, appears to retain original finials and finial plinths, brasses replaced (through original holes)
Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
