Carved Mahogany Camel-Back Sofa Danbury/Woodbury Connecticut area, 1770-1785, small scale and excellent proportions with arched back, rolled arms, serpentine front rail, molded square mahogany legs with stretchers, fine blue Scalamandre silk damask upholster; 37 in. (height at crest) x 78-1/2 in. (width) x 22-1/2 in. (depth at seat)y; accompanied by copy of original receipt and photos of sofa pre-upholstery. Notes: Bill of sale indicates "only one other Chippendale camel back sofa of Connecticut origin is recorded, now in the Barbour Collection at the Connecticut Historical Society".. Condition

center rear leg with tenon repair at top and later infill at stretcher attachment, and with surface wear and minor fading, other small areas of infill and scattered tacking scars, tenon of central stretcher extends through front leg (possibly as made), upholstery in good condition, not examined under upholstery but pre-upholstery photographs suggest the frame is in good condition; the bill of sale records that it is all original with no repairs or restoration
