NSN, cal .54, one of the most elusive of Confederate secondary arms, very few specimens known, lock markings with "PALMETTO ARMORY SC" in a circle around a palmetto tree forward of lock and "COLUMBIA / SC 1852" rear of lock, bbl breech on left flat "WM GLAZE & CO" with proofs "P" over "V" over "palmetto tree" proof, buttplate stamped "SC", overall 48-1/2 in.; accompanied by James Julia catalog, Extraordinary Firearms, Dr. Frederick G. very good overall, appears original and correct, bbl and lock are gray overall with staining and pitting, especially at breech, lock markings and bbl proofs are very good and discernible, stock is sound and well fit with correct mortising inside patchbox which was never drilled for spare nipple, mechanically sound, crisp well-defined 7 lands & grooves rifling, original brass blade front sight filed off during its period and a German silver blade was fitted into bayonet lug to take its place Note - Brunk Auctions makes every effort to offer accurate and thorough information, but encourages prospective bidders to inspect items in person whenever possible.
