Oak Revolving Music Stand and Holder stamped mark for Charles Rohlfs (American, 1853-1936), circa 1899-1902, stepped top, rotating pierced supports, each side with a pull-out sheet music support, cabinet section with pierced door at one side with shelved interior, other side with pull-out slide over four drawers, rotating on pedestal base with carved feet, 47 x 31 x 23 in.. Condition: surface cleaned with some added color, scattered cracks, breaks and repairs including cracks and one surface loss to scroll supports for top shelf, glue repair with area of loss at one drawer facing, surface loss at hinged area of one shelf support, other shelf supports with cracks and one small loss, puncture to fabric backing from pierced case sides, lacking pull for door. Notes: An extremely rare form by the artist, only one other closely related example is known (sold Phillips, New York, 16 December 2014, lot 103, for $56,250). Provenance: The consignor's grandfather worked as a doorman in New York City in the 1930s. When one of the residents of the building was moving, this music stand was given to him as they did not have room for it. It has descended in the family of the doorman since that time.
