Thorns Chair
Long Island, circa 1883, designed by Charles Alonzo Rich and Hugh Lamb for the Samuel Parker Hinckley residence "Sunset Hall" in Lawrence, oak throughout, mellow brown color, carved back, carved and shaped arms, one applied rosette on base, plank seat, X-form base, unsigned (?), 34-1/2 in. excellent condition overall, light surface wear and abrasions, minor crack in feet panel. Notes: closely related chair illustrated in Vincent Scully "The Shingle Style and The Stick Style" Scully references a period advertisement which is Sunset Hall Sketches of the Interior, American Architect, 1884.
