Note: Mr. Capus Miller Waynick acquired this collection of Pre Columbian pottery while he served as U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua from 1949-1951 and Columbia from 1951-1953. Mr. Waynick was appointed to these positions by President Harry Truman in recognition of his assistance in the 1948 campaigns. In 1951 he would temporarily return to the U.S. to organize President Truman’s Point IV program, which aimed to aid and revitalize underdeveloped nations. Mr. Waynick received all of the pottery offered here as gifts from the local people during his ambassadorship.
