18th/19th century, with dolphin form feet and scenes of sailing ships and the Belem Tower in Lisbon, 14-3/4 x 14 x 14-1/4 in.

Provenance: Private Collection, North Carolina

Note: The Belem Tower was an important point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers during the Age of Discovery, serving as a symbolic gate to the city of Lisbon. Additionally, the crosses on the sails of the large sailing ship are the symbol of the Portuguese Order of Christ, whose emblem became synonymous with the Portuguese Empire and their discoveries during that time of expansion.
