Portrait of a Scientist, said to be a portrait of Michael Faraday (1791-1867), the Father of Electromagnetism, with possibly an electrostatic generator, circa 1815, unsigned, oil on textured panel, 25-5/8 x 21-1/2 in.; modern frame, 29 x 24-1/2 in.
Note: Although mostly associated with Gilbert Stuart, textured panels were used by American artists to simulate a canvas twill.
