Two works: Portrait of James C. Crowell, Jr, Charlotte North Carolina, circa 1960, unsigned, oil on canvas, 24-1/8 x 18-1/8 in., unframed, [stains, spotting]; Delphiniums, signed lower right and verso, "Piero Aversa", tempera or oil over ink, 11-1/4 x 8-3/8 in.; original frame [discoloration of varnish], . Notes: Portrait commissioned from the artist but was confiscated by James C. Crowell, the sitter when he objected to the 'cartoon' quality of the portrait. It remains unfinished with lines evident for the further rendering of the lighting sconce. The lot is accompanied by an exhibition brochure for the artist from Adele Bednarz Galleries, Los Angeles.
