Pennsylvania, early and probably original dry surface, serpentine crest rail, urn form splat, cabriole front legs, bold trifid feet, large brass presentation plaque to rear seat rail with details about the life of Samuel Morris (see photos), 37-5/8 x 24-1/4 x 22 in., seat height 18in.

The Morris family lineage is as follows: Capt. Samuel Morris (1734–1812), Israel Wistar Morris (1778–1870), Dr. Caspar Morris (1805–1884), Israel Wistar Morris (1833–1909), Effingham Buckley Morris (1856–1937), Rhoda Fuller Morris (1880–1959), George Clymer Brooke Jr. (1905–1981), Morris Randall Brooke (b. 1935). Per consignor notes, the chair was a gift from Morris Brooke to a woman who served as full-time caretaker. Brooke had built a house on Johns Island, Charleston, South Carolina, for the caretaker and her husband to reside in while providing this care. Following Mrs. Brooke's death, Brooke gifted several pieces of furniture, including this chair, to the caretaker in recognition of her service. The chair illustrated was on loan from Effingham B. Morris, a relative of Samuel Morris.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
