Provenance: According to consignor notes, by descent from Edward Simmons, 1729-1814. Edward Simmons was born Montgomery County, but lived from early life in Philadelphia. Family history records him as a patriot, Colonel in the Philadelphia Militia during the Revolution, a vestrymen of Christ Church and member of the choir.
