Walnut Chest on Chest Philadelphia, 1760-1780, pierced broken arch pediment with carved rosettes and finials, dovetailed drawers with poplar and white cedar secondary, highly figured walnut throughout, fluted corner columns and ogee bracket feet, upper half of facings and some blocking appears to be original, 90 x 45-1/2 x 23 in. brasses replaced, pediment and feet restored, minor repairs to drawer lips, lower half of ogee bracket feet restored, upper half of facings and some blocking appears to be original. Notes: This lot and other lots from the "Private Alabama Collection" once furnished the LeRoy Pope mansion located on Echols Hill in Huntsville, Alabama. Completed in 1814 by the prominent planter and financier LeRoy Pope, it was the first mansion in in Huntsville and served as the town's social center. The mansion received many notable guests including General Andrew Jackson upon his triumphant return to Nashville after the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.. Provenance: Private Alabama Collection
