Note: According to the consignor, these window grills were made by renowned Charleston blacksmith Philip Simmons for Vanderhorst Row, located at 78 East Bay Street, Charleston, South Carolina. They were commissioned during the building’s restoration in 1935, a project undertaken by the consignor’s grandfather. Included are 1966 photographs showing the grills in place. The building and its ironwork were featured on Charleston walking tours until the grills were removed by the consignor in the 1990s.
