18th/19th century, pair of low yellow glazed planters with green rims and feet, front panels decorated with applied foliate design on rockery, both marked in ink on bases with Chinese characters, 2-3/8 x 8 x 4 in.

Notes: The Pierreponts were the most important family in Brooklyn Heights in the 19^th and early 20^th centuries.  The family mansion, built by Henry Pierrepont and located at One Pierrepont Place in Brooklyn Heights, became the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Low Pierrepont.  Mrs. Pierrepont purchased much of her Asian ceramic collection from Gump’s in San Francisco and from C.T. Loo in New York City.  The items listed here descended in the family.
