English, circa 1818-1820, painting attributed to Samuel Bourne (1789-1865): one with shepherd beside a river playing a pipe, livestock behind, the other with a family and their dog beside a cottage, large estate in the distance, each flanked by gilt mermaids seated on shells over a circular foot molded with gilt acanthus leaves, 9-1/2 in., glaze crackle, glaze losses especially inner top rim, firing cracks to interior bottom, chips at end of mermaids' tails, interior soiling and rust from use.
