Polychrome Japanned Pier Tables
British, circa 1785, each with figured mahogany and satinwood cross-banded top inlaid at the back with a fan-shaped panel, satinwood band inlaid with trailing leaves and flowers, polychromed frames with urn, swag and interlaced decoration on cream ground, 35 x 48 x 20 in., one top with veneer chip and loss at half-round inlay, other possible restorations to inlay on tops (some variation in detail on fan inlays), some leg joints with evidence of previous brackets now removed, others with some bruises at leg tops near joints with rear rail, minor warping to tops, minor cracks at one skirt, surface wear to paint, other scattered patches and cracks to veneers, minor chips, losses and surface wear to paint with some areas of inpainting.
