Pearl Inset Carved Hardwood Armchairs
late 19th century, each centering a circular finely enameled porcelain plaque, one depicting water birds, lilies and insects surrounded by mother-of-pearl inlaid auspicious symbols, the other with two birds perched on prunus branch, caved frames with stylized bats, underside of seats with partial paper labels, 39-3/4 x 27 x 20-1/2 in., good condition overall, scattered minor losses to mother-of-pearl inlay, some finish wear and some slight color variation, porcelain panels in excellent condition, small hole in legs above front stretchers (possibly once fitted with a rod), minor separations at some joints, caps for panels held in place with later washers and screws.
