American, circa 1845, Model 1842 or Navy Box Lock Model, 54 gauge, bright barrel with swivel and lock ramrod, flat lock plate and hammer brass barrel band with brass flat round buttcap, smooth one piece stock, lock plate is marked, "USN, 1843/ N.P. Ames, Springfield, Mass", round ordinance stamps on stock, "RC", barrel marked "RP/P", 6 in. barrel

An estimated 2,000 pistols were produced by N.P. Ames of Springfield, MA, and Henry Derringer of Philadelphia.

Condition

corrosion and pitting to barrel, surface scratching and marring to brass, marring to screw heads, loss to wood with with minor loss near lock plate and around buttcap, 1 in. crack to wood underneath ramrod
