described by Edward Strahan (pseudonym of Earl Shinn), Boston: Published by George Barrie, 1883-4, four volumes bound in three quarter leather over blue ribbed cloth, with five raised bands, gilt lettering and decoration, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, one of 500 copies, unnumbered, the "Japan Edition," each volume is illustrated throughout with black and white text illustrations, plates of photogravures, chromolithographs, color photochromes with captioned tissue guards and mounted on hard stock, a record of Vanderbilt's New York home and his collections

Condition

light wear, slight loss at the extremities, and on the frontispiece of Volume IV there is residual paper on the plate where the tissue guard had once stuck to the plate, some tissue guards with creases, one color plate in Volume I with crease/small tear to hard stock, otherwise near fine condition

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
