Pierre Mortier (Dutch, 1661-1711),ÿCarte General De La Caroline. Dresse sur les Memoires le plus Nouveaux Par Le Sieu A S..., Amsterdam, 1696, hand colored engraving on thick laid paper, plate 22-1/4 x 18-3/8 in.; frame 31-7/8 x 27-7/8 in. - Note: This is likely the first state of Mortier's map of the Carolinas, bearing the imprint "Pierre Mortier".This map references the short lived colony "Charles Ville ou Charles Towne", settled in 1664 along the Cape Fear river. By the end of 1667, the colony had been abandoned. The second Charles Towne was founded in 1670 in southern Carolina, now present day Charleston, South Carolina. - Provenance: Private South Carolina Collection

some restorations at areas of corrosive ink, repair at top left margin, trimmed along right margin, light toning around the margins, very light foxing, minor edge tears; frame in good conditionÿ
Purchased items not picked up in Richmond by noon on Sunday will then be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
