Notes from the Metropolitan Museum files indicate this piece was reconstructed at the Met in 1931. The top was missing so the back was substituted for the top, and two pieces were added to piece out the top. The side panels show a central cut suggesting some reconfiguring, currently lacking backboards, case interior set with heavy modern steel bracing system for structural support (disassembles for transit), some panels and/or framing members restored (interior with black stenciled marks "New York"), pest damage, some losses and repairs at joints, strip patch at one side of top, make no mistake - this is very heavy
