(American, 1885-1965)Fanciful Woman, 1955, signed lower left in wet paint "Milton Avery 1955", inscribed by Sally Avery verso, oil on canvas board, 15-7/8 x 11-7/8 in.; Stanford White reproduction gilt wood frame, 25-3/4 x 21-5/8 in.Note: Christie's gives this provenance in their sale of this painting in 2014, "(Possibly) Cold Spring Gallery, Cold Spring Harbor, New York. Private collection, (possibly) acquired from the above, circa late 1970s." There is no record of this gallery in exhibition history. However, according to William "Mac" Chambers, expert and former Vice President of Grace Borgenicht Gallery, Milton Avery's wife, Sally, was putting his work in many galleries during the 70s that were not necessarily known by biographers. Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
