possibly made by William McClure, Greeneville, Tennessee, 19th century, early 20th century shipping label verso "Mrs. H. L. Milligan, Greeneville, Tennessee", figured cherry, walnut and other mixed woods with poplar secondary, stepped and mirrored backsplash over three dovetailed drawers over four doors, flanked by reeded pilasters and columns on turned feet, 61-1/4 x 72-1/2 x 21-1/2 in.. Notes: This sideboard probably was among the furnishings of the Wyly-Howard-Mulligan House (circa 1823). It then likely was moved to boxwood Manor (circa 1855) when the Milligan and Joseph R. Brown families intermarried.. Provenance: Descended in the Milligan Family, probably from Sam Milligan (1814-1874) to the Estate of the late Mary Jane Milligan, Greeneville, Tennessee; Brunk Auctions, January 2008, lot 60; Private Collection

Condition

refinished, restorations to backsplash including strip patch at back of top, later bracing and some cracks and warping to top, some other elements resurfaced and possibly replaced, mirror backing replaced and mirror possibly a later addition, molding on top possibly replaced, scattered veneer patches, some areas of color restoration, one foot ended out, other scattered repairs
