Journal, dated 1840, from an individual sailing on the schooner "Looray Vinal", 34 neatly handwritten pages in blue ink including the headers: notes on tides, geometrical problems, logarithms, trigonometry, navigation, plane sailing, traverse sailing (framed page), middle latt. sailing, mercators sailing, variation of compass, how to work an observation, and A Journal of a Voyage from Boston towards Madeira and A Journal from Scituate to North Carolina; one page with drawing of anchor framed,. Condition: some pages with elements cut out with some parts remaining loose, toning, tears, wear and losses; frame with abrasions.
