Note: A similar example referred to as a "Salem Masterpiece" is illustrated in Israel Sack, Inc., American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, Vol. V, (1974), p. 1256, fig. P4287. One of the few surviving high chests with the globe or ball top center finial is illustrated in a 1995 brochure for C.L. Prickett Antiques. That example is a more simplified or country version of the Salem School bonnet top, however it retains a related version of this rare and unusual finial form.
