English, circa 1840, of square section, conical cover with bird finial, richly gilt mythical birds molded in high relief, crimson ground, 32-1/2 in., chip at one corner of side, three areas of glaze "pitting" on three sides, gilt on bird finial with some loss. Provenance: Valerie Howard, Christie's London, 2003; Tennessee Private Collection; Note: Valerie Howard was a prominent dealer of Mason's in London. After her death, Christie's sold the remaining stock of her shop.
