Drawer Chest
Baltimore, 1810-1820, signed in chalk on back "William Winchester Charles St. Baltimore", well-figured mahogany, paneled sides and back, dovetailed drawers with white pine and poplar secondary, turned feet, 41-1/2 x 42-3/4 x 22 in.. Notes: Baltimore trained cabinetmaker William Winchester, came to Tennessee to work for his uncle General James Winchester who built Cragfont (1798-1802) in Sumner County, Tennessee. William Winchester worked for General Winchester in 1802 building the furniture for Cragfont. Further research may show that the William Winchester signature on the back of this chest may refer to the cabinetmaker who came to Tennessee.. Provenance: Private Collection
