Metropolitan Opera Lincoln Center Opening September 1966, poster edition of 3000, Editions of the Metropolitan Opera, New York, publisher, Mourlot, Paris, France, printer, 1967, color lithograph, 35-1/2 x 29-1/2 in.; painted wood frame, 42-1/8 x 28-1/8 in.
This image is a detail of the preparatory sketch for one of the two large paintings, "The Triumph of Music", located in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln center. Executed by Charles Sorlier under the complete supervision of Marc Chagall. This is an impression from the editions of 3,000 with text. While the date on the poster says 1966, it was actually produced at the same time as the other poster "The Magic Flute" in 1967 for the inauguration of the theatre. -Mourlot Editions
