(Italy, second half 19th century)

Represented in classical Roman Republic drapery, unsigned, carved marble with marble socle, 25 x 14-1/2 x 11 in.

Note: This composition compares to the bust by Hiram Powers (American, 1805-1873, after 1837 active Florence, Italy) but with abbreviated classical Roman drapery. During this period in Italy, he produced replicas, some with assistance, of his original from 1838-1844 which was originally derived from the 1785 life bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon (French, 1741-1828).
