(French, 1796-1875)
Traveler on a Country Road, bears spurious signature lower left, "Corot", oil on panel, 14-5/8 x 9-3/8 in.; gilt wood and composition frame, 20-3/4 x 15-1/2 in.
Note:A letter from the experts on Corot, Martin Dieterle and Claire Lebeau, dated May 21, 2008, states that the painting resembles more the pictorial writing of one of Corot's imitators, possibly Andre Julien Prevost and that "the signature is badly imitated". These opinions were based on photographs and not from first hand examination. The letter accompanies the lot.
Provenance: The Estate of Peter H. Tillou, Litchfield, Connecticut
