Portrait of an Older Man in Blue Jacket, unsigned, oil on canvas, 24 x 19-3/4 in.; gilt wood and composition frame, 33-1/4 x 28-1/2 in.
Lot is accompanied by a photo certificate with the opinion from Pierre Courthion attributing the painting to Gustave Courbet and dated between 1848 and 1855. The document goes on to say that, "This work was presented to me unfortunately after the writing of my two volumes...This explains the absence of this work." It is also accompanied by a letter from the gallery and Pierre Courthion.
