Note: Sargent Kahanamoku was the younger brother of Duke Halapu Kahanamoku, (1890 – 1968), and was a Hawaiian competition swimmer who popularized the sport of surfing. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Hawaii in July 1934, Sargent and his brother Sam were part of the official welcoming ceremonies at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
