Note: This spice box descended in the Lyon family of Havre de Grace, Maryland, and was acquired from a February 2000 estate auction. The Lyon family had lived in Havre de Grace since the late 18th Century and ran Lyon's Pharmacy from the mid-19th century onward. An early printed label from that pharmacy, bearing an ink inscription for "Salt Petre", remains with the box.
