American, 19th century, sheet iron, painted on both sides, in the form of a Native American with headdress, bow and arrow, and knife and arrow in his belt, with attached threaded rod, 17 in.; with item is original receipt and letter dated 1968, letter refers to The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection, by Nina Fletcher Little, Plate 144, page 302, which shows a similar ornament, and Antiques magazine, September 1947 issue, article Railroad Art by Lucius Beebe, showing a similar Indian in place on a locomotive
