British or possibly Southern, late 18th century, with large figured single board mahogany top, tilting over a box form support, on baluster turned stand with leaf carved legs and feet, on brass casters 28-1/2 x 39-1/4 x 38-1/4 in.Note: The specific origin of these tables with their box form top supports remains elusive. While some are attributed to eastern North Carolina, they have close relatives in their British precedents. It remains difficult to distinguish between the two when they are composed entirely of mahogany, as is this example. - Provenance:

generally good, one batten replaced, patch and repair at wooden hinge, catches for wooden top replaced, later key, footwear to knees and feet, minor crack at baluster turning, some finish distress at base, no foot repairs found (casters replaced)
