Hanging Shrine Temple Lantern
Japanese, probably Edo period, heavy bronze lantern in thick-gauge metal with prominent hollyhock motif of the Tokugawa clan on sides and bottom, constructed and decorated to be viewed from below; such lanterns hung in multiples along the eves of shrine temples, raised handle, 27 x 19 in.. Condition: small buttons missing on outside edges of two feet.
