two rubbings on paper: stylized landscape; stylized phoenix design, mounted to paper backing with silk brocade border, image 29-1/4 x 15-1/4 in., overall 55-1/2 x 22 in.

Note: Mounted as a hanging scroll, this an original rare ink on paper rubbing of Korea’s artwork designated National Treasures dating from the Three Kingdoms Period (57 BC - 668 AD). Direct ink rubbings are no longer allowed in Korea in order to preserve the artwork. These early 1960s ink rubbings are scarce. The famous Brick Tile (with the Daoist Peach Blossom Paradise Landscape Design) dates from the Baekje Kingdom (18 BC - 660 AD). The famous Silla Roof Tile (with the Phoenix design) dates from the Silla and Baekje Kingdoms. Both were excavated beginning 1937.

Provenance: Formerly in the Private Collection of Dr. Leon Sinder (acquired in Korea early 1960s); Private Collection, Florida
