Pitcher American, mid-19th century, urn form with floral and scroll decoration, wave border, cast "S" scroll and bead handle, double struck mark for John Kitts (Louisville, Kentucky, working 1836-1878) and "K&P", inscribed "South Western Agricultural/and Mechanical Accociation/to/Mrs. W. W. Taylor", 6-3/4 in., 6.96 oz. T. base rim dents and repair, small dents, light scratches. Notes: Mrs. W. W. Taylor was Sarah A. (Sanford) Taylor of Oldham County, Kentucky. Sarah's husband W. W. Taylor was the son of William Taylor, a close relative of President Zachary Taylor. The family was heavily involved in farming and agriculture and eventually donated the land to create the town of La Grange, Kentucky. W.W. Taylor served as a judge for the state society and is listed as a member of the Henderson, Union and Hopkins Agricultural Society. Records indicate W.W. Taylor was a prolific champion in many areas, taking home premiums from multiple fairs across multiple disciplines including but not limited to boots, stallions, and best-aged mare. At this point current research has found Mrs. Taylor winning a certificate for cooked ham at the Union Agricultural and Mechanical Association but a record of her wins at the South Western Agricultural and Mechanical Association has not been located at present.
