The Great Emancipation, two works for Harper's Weekly; preparatory drawing, unsigned, double-sided, pencil on paper, 6 x 8-3/4 in., with unrelated drawing verso depicting Major General Benjamin Butler, also unsigned, 5 x 7-3/4 in.; Harper's Weekly from December 20, 1862, showing the final newsprint illustration, signed in print lower left, sight: 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 in.; in matching silver finished wood frames, 21-1/4 x 16-1/4 in.

Note: Caption: Sensation among ?Our Colored Brethren? on ascertaining that the Grand Performance to which they had been invited on New Year's Day, was unavoidably postponed to the year 1900!

drawings hinged in, fading, smudging and surface fragility commensurate with age; Harper's Weekly folded in half, mounted with archival corners; both frames with minimal wear

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
