Pre-Raphaelite Portrait of a Young Girl with Red Hair, Venice, 1907, identified on label verso as "Marie Recknagel", the artist's granddaughter (born 1896), signed lower right within box "JR/1907", unsigned, pastel on paper, 39-3/8 x 18-1/2 in.; parcel gilt and painted wood frame, 43-7/8 x 23-1/8 in.
Note: John H. Recknagel, Jr. studied at the National Academy of Design in New York, in the studio of artist Jean-Paul Laurens and at the Academie Julian in Paris. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts, Paris.
