Condition: hinged at three points, possibly trimmed at sides, light handling grime and very light toning. Notes: John Sloan speaks of this composition in his diary, "'These were typical of the fashionable ladies who used to drive up and down the avenue about 4 o'clock of an afternoon, showing themselves and criticizing others.... I think the portraits are good; people have recognized them years later.... Following the connoisseur idea, the proposed title of this plate had been 'Connoisseurs of Fifth Avenue' or 'Connoisseurs of Virtue'.
