American, group of four items; circa 1860, Eli Whitney musket (Mississippi rifle), Colt conversion to .58 caliber, round 33 in. barrel, raised brass front sight, two rear sights marked "300" and "500", brass bands, steel ramrod, lanyard on band and trigger guard, bayonet attachment marked "3700", brass trigger guard, brass patch box interior is marked in paint "G.A.R. 371", brass buttcap marked "US", lock plate reads "E. Whitney, US/N Haven 1854", barrel reads "1854, Steel/US/SK/VP"; leather cartridge box with belt, stamped "US" on outside flap, inside flap stamped "U.S. Ord. Dept GT Woodbury" and "R. Nece, Philad", wadding pouch box stamped on outer flap "U.S. Ord. Dept GT Woodbury" and "Wm Wilkinson, Springfield, Mass", 6-1/2 x 9 in.; round tin canteen with later blue paint, 7-1/4 in.; framed enlistment record, dated 1902, which partly reads "John M Farner, enlisted in Harrisburg, PA, Company F, 130th Regiment, Penna Vol Infantry", 35 x 29 in.

Condition

musket with patina pitting and surface scratching to metal throughout, marring and some minimal dents to wood stock, loss to wood stock at ramrod pipe, missing bayonet; leather belt with cracking, dry leather, missing belt buckle; canteen with later blue paint, scratching and denting to surface, no plug; document with fading and toning, some foxing, some rubbing to wood frame
